Boss Babe and ADHD
Oh my goodness! When I was teaching everything was timed and schedules to follow and things had to get done in certain order unless something else took precedent (which happened A.L.O.T! Let's face it...it was teaching!) But for the most part my day was laid out and eventually (took me wwaayyy too long) but eventually I figured out my flow. I got to where I rarely brought home papers to grade or lessons to plan. I figured out how to get it all done.
I knew on the weekends I was meal planning or I wouldn't eat, because its not like teachers can run out and grab something, they get a 20 min lunch if that. My weekly, daily and even hourly schedule was laid out for me and what was expected was given to me.
AND I HATED IT...:)
My ADHD self has a love/hate relationship with schedules, I so need a schedule or I will accomplish absolutely nothing...and I mean that! I will watch TV, doom scroll, and take a nap and accomplish nothing!
Having said that when I have a schedule my brain is like nope....don't like that, it is the same thing all the time and no dopamine rush, lets do the nothing thing instead because at least doom scrolling give some kind of entertainment. Mindless and not useful at all but sends the signals I like.
So while I have this love hate relationship with schedules, by the way, I'm actually starting to get the hang of my new schedule that I created and really loving it! But I struggle more so with tedious task that have to get done. I HATE TEDIOUS WORK! I know some people with ADHD who love love love the details of a project and can get so lost in the details its hard to get to the end. I'm the opposite, I HATE the details and just want the final result.
What is my task right now?? Dare I say it??? T.A.X.E.S!! Yep! I have to finish calculating all the miles I drove for real estate this year, from 2 hour trips to Gainsboro and Lawrenceburg, to closer to home places and the many open houses that I think I lost track of...oooppps.
Then all the receipts I have been keeping all year...all they all there? Did I throw any away or lose any? Probably! Thanks ADHD!!
Not only miles and receipts but then any of my fees...ugh...will this ever end???
Can someone else please keep track and do this for me?? Oh yeah, not without charging and arm and a leg...hahaha..but I can see why because NO ONE WANTS TO DO THIS!
So why can't I just take a day or two, a timer and sit down to do it?? That sounds easy right? Just do it and get it over and done with. Well, you see, my brain says that's a lot to do and I don't even want to get started! I think its called ADHD paralysis and if you've never experienced it...count your blessings!
So far this is the only downfall of being your own boss babe....TAXES!! Oh and the consistent paycheck thing was nice but not at what I had to sacrifice for it.
Working for someone else means giving up precious time that could be spent with growing children, aging/sick parents/grandparents, not able to really study and focus on the things that really matter. I have always tried to prioritize Jesus and coffee time in the morning but now I have time to really sit and meditate on my prayers, on Gods Word and Scripture.
I have the ability to when the school calls and says I have a sick kid I can drop everything and go, I have the ability to take my grandparents to Dr. appointments and randomly have lunch with my mom, friends or clients.
And....what else I get...is the opportunity I never had in education...the opportunity to change my and my family's life! I'm so excited to see where this journey will take me this year....not for me to boast but to give God all the praise, thanks and glory because without Him I would not be here fretting over doing my taxes. But seriously though, God brought me here to what I truly believe is my God given assignment to rely on Him, seek first His Kingdom, produce good fruit, make disciples and serve my clients...that is really my goal! Ya'll pray for me and if I can pray for you please leave a comment or message and I will put you on my prayer list.
